- NWLib now comes with two versions: 16Bit and 32Bit. If your
- version of NWLib comes with both versions, you'll find each
- version contained in it's own seperate .ZIP file within
- this package.
-
- For Delphi 1.x, unZIP the 16BIT.ZIP file, then use the NWREG.PAS,
- and the *.DCU files to add to your component palette, as
- instructed in the README.NOW document.
-
- For Delphi 2.x, unZIP the 32BIT.ZIP file, then use the NWREG.PAS,
- and the *.DCU files to add to your component palette, as
- instructed in the README.NOW document.
-
- If your package contains only a single platform version, you'll
- find the required files have already been unZipped for you, and
- can now be added to your component palette.

- Novell Netware Client 32 Required!
- ****************************************
-
- NWLib 32 requires the Novell Netware Client 32 workstation
- software. If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, you'll
- need to install this software on your client machine before you
- can run applications compiled using NWLib 32, or while using Delphi 2.0
- to compile applications that contain NWLib 32 code.
-
- You can download the Client 32 installation kit from Novell's WWW site
- or their Compuserve Forum. Or, call your Novell Support representative
- for more information.
-
- Quite simply, the MS Client for Netware does not adequately support
- the Netware services we programmers have known and loved for so many
- years. Even though the client software that comes with Win95/NT allows
- you to log into a Novell Network, it does not support things like
- NDS, secure logins, bindery and property access, semaphore locking,
- advanced connection information, file server statistics, etc. etc.
- About the only thing you can do with the MS Client for Netware is
- map a drive and get the user's login name. We need more power!
-
- As you may remember, MS got into a little hot water with Novell a few
- years back...something about their inclusion of Novell's proprietary
- code in the MS Windows 3.x Client software for Novell Networks. So, I
- imagine this still has something to do with the fact that MS is
- continuing to ship a lame client for Netware and not cooperating with
- Novell on the subject (so it seems to the layman, anyway). Maybe this
- is some attempt to make NT Server more appealing, because Win95/NT
- support for Netware is ailing?
-
- Only by mass-switching over to the Netware Client32 workstation software
- can we assure that we get the kind of support we need. Let's face it:
- the client software and API kit is vital to a network-application
- developer's success, and a good one can make-or-break a network operating
- system. Novell has been developing their client API kit for over a
- decade. It is certainly a mature, robust development platform. I say it
- will be a huge step backward if we are forced to support the weaker and
- less mature MS Client for Netware. Do your part...switch today and let
- MS know about it.
-
- AFAIK, you will lose the peer-to-peer facilities you gain under Win95 when
- you upgrade to the client32 software. This means users that run the
- new Client32 will no longer be able to directly connect to other machines
- on the same network, no matter which Netware client they are running.
- I am unsure of the status on the availability of this feature in future
- Netware Client32 releases.
